Nutritional therapy plays a major role in the process of treating obesity. A diet selected appropriately to the patient’s somatic condition and the advancement of the disease allows for gradual weight loss. It is important that the caloric content and type of diet are continuously adjusted depending on the progress of the treatment process and are under the constant supervision of a clinical dietitian. The dietitian approaches each patient individually and prepares a diet that is appropriate for the level of obesity.
It should be remembered that a properly selected diet does not cause a sense of hunger! If nutritional therapy is based on a calorie deficit, which is absolutely associated with a feeling of “wolf hunger”, then after the therapy is completed, the patient reacts to hunger and starts eating much more than even before the treatment began. The result of such a procedure is the yo-yo effect. In the Specialized Therapy Center, the diet is selected so that the patient does not feel hungry, thanks to which in the future they will avoid the yo-yo effect and develop healthy eating habits.
Treatment of obesity requires a multifaceted approach. Diet alone is not enough, because it is a psychological problem. Psychotherapy is very important, during which the patient learns a healthy way of thinking about food and changing eating habits. Psychotherapy allows you to work on motivation and perseverance in the treatment process and strengthens the psychological aspects in the process of gradual weight loss.
Losing weight is not possible without psychological support. Great support and motivation is provided to patients by staying in a therapeutic community and working together on the causes of eating disorders in group activities.
Obesity is often the result of compulsive overeating, in which case individual and group psychotherapy plays a major role. During individual psychotherapy, the patient has the opportunity to have an honest conversation about emotions, feelings, events, behaviors, habits and symptoms of illness with the leading therapist. Thanks to the bond between the patient and the therapist, it is possible to find the cause of compulsive overeating and take appropriate steps in treatment. During group psychotherapy, the patient, together with the group, searches for, identifies, and works through the cause of compulsive overeating.
